Blast off

Dave and I have been keeping our eye on the scheduled launches out at the Kennedy Space Center. Over a year ago we drove down to Titusville (2 1/2 hours from here) to watch a space shuttle launch but they ended up postponing it due to inclement weather, it was cloudy w/ lightning. But we knew we'd be back to try again some day. Watching a shuttle launch is an experience of a lifetime and we don't want miss that.

When Dave's family was visiting us one Christmas we drove to a wildlife preserve over by the Kennedy Space Center and were lucky enough to witness a rocket launch. It was awesome!

And the other night when Dave was looking online at the launch schedule he shouted out, "April! They just launched a rocket!" "How long ago?" I asked. "Just 3 minutes ago!" So I ran outside into the street scanning the sky. Nothing, nothing... whoa! And there it was!!! A large, orange glowing fire shooting off in the horizon! Sadly Dave had gone back into the house and missed it. But yes, we can see launches from our own front yard! Our neighbors say they will go into the culdesac to watch the shuttle launches. Now how cool is that? I can't believe we are leaving this place. If anyone wants to move to Florida you should really buy our house. You seriously couldn't go wrong.

Well, tonight the Kennedy Space Center had scheduled to launch the shuttle Discovery. Dave and I had it all planned out-- pack up the car with snacks, chair, binoculars, pajamas and card games, grab a $5 pizza at Little Ceasars, meet Dave at 9A whereupon the kids would don masks and jump out of the car and kidnap him, and then we'd surprise the kids by telling them we were going to watch the space shuttle launch. Everything went as planned, until we met Dave and he told me the launch had been cancelled!!! There was a leak of some sort. Bummer! I'm so glad we hadn't told the kids yet. So we took our pizza to a nearby playground and went on a nice walk at sunset on a river boardwalk. We had a fun evening anyhow, but dangit, we WILL see a shuttle launch. They have rescheduled it for Sunday evening. Keep your fingers crossed!

I think it's way cool we get to see the space shuttle launch. Matt's parents have gone down to see a "close up" view and said it was very neat!
Hope Isaac is feeling better, we missed him Sunday.

I agree, it's awesome that you can see the shuttle from your house! We had to go to the park to see them, as there were too many trees right around us. But it is pretty spectacular, for being so far away! I hope you get to see it!
