Skate or Die (March)

Saturday morning Dave and I woke up and heard the kids bustling about. What are they up to this time?

Super excited they took us into their room and explained their doings.

Isaac joyfully exclaimed, "Me and Ethan woke up and went outside and found this box in Bradley's garbage. So we brought it in and made a skate park out of it!" They'd colored it and made launch ramps and all.

Okay, my first thought: What? They had unbolted the front door, unchained the second lock, and left to explore the early morning world without Dave and I having the slightest clue? Hmmm. I hope they don't do that again.

Second thought: My kids were digging through the neighbor's garbage? (Go ahead and laugh, I know, it figures.)

Third and most prominent thought: Are these not the cutest and most fun little boys EVER?!

Earlier in the month Isaac had been talking about these "Tech Decks" that his friends at school had. They are miniature skate decks and he really really wanted one. So trying to appease him, we made some out of cardboard (the deck), sandpaper (the grip tape), legos (the trucks), and some miniature car wheels for the wheels. They worked! And the kids had fun with them. A few days later Isaac's friend Cody, the supplier of all desirable goods, gave Isaac a real "Tech Deck" that had a broken wheel. Boy was Isaac happy. Then, a week or so later, I found some Tony Hawk mini boards at KOHL'S and bought them, thinking that somehow we could have the kids earn the skateboards, or at least use them for some sort of manipulation. Well, Dave and I are softies, and that happy Saturday morning seemed the perfect occasion to give them their real "tic-tacs" (as Isaac would call them). And guess what? They were overjoyed, and so were we.

Yah, my first thought was, "they were outside without their parents". Digging in the trash, well that's a Floridian thing isn't it, looks good take it! :)
As for the tech deks, my kids love them but their wheels fall off so easy!

Boy did we get a good laugh out of this one. I just installed a chain lock to make sure no one got in or OUT without me knowing... I guess I shouldn't feel completely assured.
