Dec.13th Happy Birthday Davey

Davey's birthday was on a Saturday this year and so we were able to plan a few fun events for the day to celebrate our main man.

We started the day with traditional birthday decorations and a yummy waffle breakfast. Then we headed downtown to Hemming Plaza for a family Christmas festival. We had a great time on the horse drawn hay ride, playing games, making crafts, listening to music, and people watching (one of Dave's all time favorite things to do).

After those festivities we headed home and opened Dave's gift from the kids, a giant root beer mug.

Next we loaded up my kayak, had a friend come over to watch the kids, rented a kayak for the birthday boy and headed out to a nearby marsh off the intracoastal to spend a couple hours exploring! It was a ton of fun and we saw lots-o fish. The tide was at it's low and so the fish didn't have much room to wiggle in some of the streams. It was neat to see some big ones surfacing and splashing around. A few even knocked Dave's kayak. We also saw alot of beautiful birds and managed to stay afloat the whole time. It was so beautiful out there. And it felt like the old days where Dave and I were able to do stuff like this alot more often. It was great to spend some time together alone.

Then we headed home to get the kiddos and went to eat dinner at Sweet Tomatoes. This restaurant is Dave's favorite place to eat as a family: you don't have to wait to get your food, it's noisy and so the kids can't make too much of a scene, everyone can get what they want and eat as much of it as they want or don't want, and you don't have the hassle of a waiter. What more could you ask for with kids? When it is just Dave and I we most often eat Indian.

After dinner we came home and had birthday cake. The birthday cake is always a highlight of the day so even though we were all completely stuffed, we just had to do it anyway. Ethan had insisted that we make Dave an eel cake. An eel cake? Isaac didn't seem to think that was an odd idea and volunteered to draw the eel, thank goodness. So here it is. Sprinkles and mini Twix's were also a must have.

And last but not least is the birthday song and candle blowing. Ethan made it a pretty entertaining experience. Pay close attention to Dave's face when he's about to blow the candles out and also keep an eye on Ethan and listen for his laugh in the dark. He's always keeping things lively that kid. He's gonna give Dave a run for his money!

And that's it, Dave is now 31 and as handsome, kind, smart, and fun as ever! I sure love you Davey! I couldn't ask for a more wonderful best friend and eternal companion than you!

Giant root beer mug is brilliant! You probably store it in the freezer so it's always ready to go. What a great birthday you gave him April. Love that cake :)
