A very proud and heart warming moment for the Ferguson family

So this photo says it all I guess. Unbelievably I won 1st place in the Atlantic Ward chili cook-off. What the?! This is only the second time I've made chili in my life, since I don't like it that much. And as I started adding the ingredients from the super fast chili recipe I got off the internet, I realized that I didn't have chili powder. I didn't have chili powder! So a dash of this and a dash of that... When I finished I thought, blah, just a normal tasting chili. Nothing special about it. At least it wasn't gross. And then I got to thinking, hmmm, what could I add that would be different and add a little umph? And so I added my secret ingredient. When Dave got home that day I had him try it and he said he liked it and he was willing to eat the leftovers if no one ate it at the ward Halloween party that night. Okay good, got the leftovers covered.
Dave registered my chili for me and set it out on the table with all the other chilis at church. A few minutes later we went through the buffet line and sadly I noticed that no one was eating my chili! Oh, how embarassing. So la-dee-da we ate, socialized, and I heard the Bishop announcing the chili winners. I paid absolutely no attention. Why should I? And then, did I hear that right?! My name was called out. Huh? I didn't know what I had won but when I realized what was happening, oh what a thrill! First place! I was so excited and Isaac and Dave were so proud of me. We all couldn't believe it. And the bowl was empty when we retrieved it! So we hung the blue ribbon up for a few days afterwards just to revel in our miraculous winning-ness. So fun! Are you wondering what the secret ingredient was that put it over the top? Honey roasted peanuts. It just added a nice texture and flavor. Can I patent this idea and make some money off of it somehow? Well anyway, I'll never be able to make the same chili again since I don't remember what I put in it or how much. But really, the next time you have chili, throw some honey roasted peanuts in the mix and enjoy!
