Let's party!
(I mean he is staying in nice hotels, eating steaks, and being pampered so why sit at home and sulk?...)
During the day we went out to Kingsley Plantation for a Black Heritage Celebration event. Turns out we got there 2 hours early so we just played on the dock and wandered around the beautiful grounds. By the time the speech and choir were to come, the kids had gotten restless. We left and explored other nearby areas in the car until they fell asleep. I was sad we didn't get to hear that choir!

But that night was the grand event! The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association was having a competition! And it was free! Even though it was late in the evening and on the way other side of town, we just could not miss this opportunity! I truly should have grown up to be a cowgirl, and am a little bit sad that I haven't. Some day Dave and I want to experience all the walks of life for a year, just for fun. One of those years we want to be ranchers. Maybe that will come true someday?
Anyhow, we had a blast at this show. There were cowboys dressed up in costumes from the 1900's. They barrel raced around the arena and as they did this they had to shoot (with pistols and rifles) targets (ballons) placed here and there. Whoever was the fastest and hit the most targets won. Yes, guns, cowboys, horses, and speed. The boys were thrilled. On the way there Mason even saved one of his chicken nuggets for "the horsies." At the end of the show one cowboy came up to the side of the arena so we went down to pet his horse and talk to him. It was the boys lucky night because he pulled out one of his pistols, unloaded the used bullets and gave one each to Isaac, Ethan and Mason! They were so excited and carried them around for the next few days. Maybe they won't mind so much when we become ranchers.

April, you all do the most fun activities and your timing is always impeccable...you fall into such great extras you didn't count on !
If I ever took my kids out of school just to have fun with them, they would've thought I was nuts ! You are such a fantastic Mom !!!
How do you find out about all this cool stuff around us? I am a "cowgirl" at heart too. I LOVE the rodeo and love to dress myself and the kids up whenever we go to round up in Oregon.
Fun day with the kids (taking them out of school). I was worried when I had to take Kai out 3 days early at Christmas. Don't know what I thought would happen the school police might follow me in hot pursuit to Oregon?? :)
