The sun. The Son.

I think it's wonderful when the sun shines through the windows and makes warm squares on the carpet. I love these sunny shapes, and I especially like to lay in them and take a nap. Does anyone else do this too? If not, I recommend it. It's so nice.

The other day while Isaac and Ethan were at school and Mason was napping, I had a few minutes to lay in the warm sunny carpet shapes. I laid there and watched blue sky and clouds float by. A couple times I tried to look at the sun but it was just too bright. I couldn't really even do it (I know I know, you should never look directly at the sun, but who hasn't tried?)

As I looked at the beauty outside in the sun I began to think about the sun. I began to think about its warmth, its power and brightness. I thought about how it can penetrate everything and light up our homes better than our man made light bulbs. I thought about how much energy it holds and provides. I thought about how almost everything needs it to grow. I thought about how it makes us feel happy when it's out, and how we plan our time around it- we get up when it comes out, and we sleep when it is goes down. Then I began to think about The Son. The symbolism is so perfect. As I laid on the carpet that day and pondered the depth of it, it's meaning grew for me.

For example, in comparing man made light bulbs to the light of the sun: when I put my make-up on inside and then walk out into the daylight, I see what I've missed, or that I've mistakingly put on too much. Or how about when you try something on in a store and think the clothing is one color and then you wear it outside and you realize, in the truth of real sunlight, that it really isn't brown, it's green. Well that's how the Savior's light is, and the gospel, it's just way better than the "light" man has tried to make, and truer.

All the living beauty in the world- flowers, trees, grasses, etc. need sunlight to grow. With that sunlight a little brown seed can become a majestic oak tree or a colorful flower. It is the same with the light of Christ. It grows all good things, and makes it possible for mankind to reach our grand potential.

It's amazing to me how far away the sun is yet how bright it shines on us on earth. I mean for Pete's sake, you can't even look at it. It is so powerful and penetrating. The Son too is the brightest. He is the light and the life, and all powerful. He has made all good things possible. He lights the way. He wins over darkness. His Atonement renews us, feeds our spirits, makes up for our shortcomings. I love the sun. And even more I love the Son. I am grateful for symbolic beauty of him that surrounds us and reminds us of his truth, his love, and his mission.

I like that. The sun is so perfect and yet so mysterious.

I heard over the weekend that if you put a man in a warm dark room with plenty of food and water, he will still die in there with no sunlight.

It is amazing what the sun can do! I have also heard that all the energy from the sun in one day is enough to provide power needs to the entire planet for one year. We just haven't learned how to correctly and efficiently harvest it.

I love your train of thought and you phrased it so well. Aren't we lucky to have the truth?
