Mirror Mirror

Have you ever been walking along at the mall or the gym or the salon and spied yourself in the mirror and thought, "Awww man! Really? I look like that?!" It's pretty common in my life. So I've come up with a theory: get rid of the mirror, or at least don't look. If you can't ever see how you really look, then you get to imagine yourself however you want (and feel good about it because no mirror will prove otherwise). I'm just sure it would make a world of more satisfied people. We could feel a whole lot better about ourselves thinking we look like a million bucks all the time. (Keep in mind that we wouldn't get big headed about it or let ourselves go to pot). Because for the most part, how you envision yourself is how you believe you really are. And that also leads me to the thought that as you get rid of your mirrors (except for those to help you apply your make-up and pop zits ;) ), why not start thinking that you are really cool/great? And that you have alot to offer. And that people like you. And that you are talented. Why not? (egos in check, right). Because what you think about yourself affects how you feel about yourself and how you feel about yourself affects how you act and lead your life. So why not think good things about yourself? If you believe you are a good listener then perhaps you will try harder to be that good listener. If you believe you are friendly then perhaps you will also be more cheerful and talkative to those around you. And on and on. Besides, when we compare ourselves to others it's all just relative anyway. There will always be someone richer or poorer, heavier or thinner, nicer or meaner, dumber or smarter, better or worse. So anyway, I think we should just enjoy ourselves a little more than we do. We are unique and we are good that way. And don't let that mirror tell you otherwise.

This would work for me until I looked down and saw my muffin top. I am however going to try your mind trick suggestion and pretend that muffin top is really desireable and everyone wishes they had one like mine :). (it would save a lot of time spent on crunches.)

April,
I CANNOT imagine you seeing yourself in the mirror and thinking you look anything other than cute. Everything about you is cute!

Okay so I just posted that one of the things I love about you is your confidence and then I scrolled down to find this great post. You said it so well. Ghandi said, "become the change you wish to see..." or something like that and it is one of my favorite quotes. I think we all have something great to offer and we just need to relish in it a bit more than we do.
